The Columbia River generates more clean, renewable electrical power than any other river in the world.
The hydroelectric facilities owned and operated by Chelan and Douglas County Public Utility Districts
on the mid-section of the Columbia provide water for irrigation, flood control, recreation, and best
of all, some of the lowest cost electrical rates in the country.
At a rate of 1.85 cents per kilowatt-hour*, the average electric bill for homeowners in Douglas County is
approximately $45 per month and slightly higher in Chelan County. This power source is both abundant and
reliable, virtually eliminating the possibility of "brown-outs" and other electrical disruptions.
Wind and solar power are making their debut on local power grids, and with an ample supply of both, these
promising renewable resources under gird our regions power supplies.
