Mark Spurgeon, Commissioner

Commissioner Mark Spurgeon retired from the Eastmont School District after 32 years in public education — 17 years as a high school teacher and coach and 15 years in administration. He served as assistant principal at Lake Stevens and Sammamish (Bellevue) high schools, and as principal at Eastmont Junior High School. The Wenatchee native's last years in public education were as executive director for the Eastmont School District, supervising the construction of two new schools and the remodeling and additions at two elementary schools. After retirement, Mark served as assessment coordinator and dean of liberal arts at Wenatchee Valley College. He holds a master's degree in policy, governance and administration from the University of Washington, and a bachelor's degree in Germanic language and linguistics, also from the UW. The East Wenatchee resident is married to Nancy and has two grown daughters. He enjoys scuba diving, music, golf, and fishing. Mark also is a member and past president of the East Wenatchee Rotary Club and a trustee for the Community Foundation of North Central Washington.
