To accomplish our goals for economic development the Port levies a property tax of less than 25 cents per $1000 of assessed value. For an average $200,000 home this represents approximately $50 per year or $4.15 per month. This assessment is far below the maximum amount of 45-cents permitted by state law and represents less than 2% of the total property tax assessment in Douglas County. In other words, the Port of Douglas conducts all of its economic development and new business recruitment efforts for the cost of a McDonald's Happy Meal by Douglas County homeowners.
The Port is also able to generate lease revenues from the land and industrial
buildings located at the Pangborn Memorial Airport, from concession fees at
Orondo River Park, and from hanger or tie down fees charged at the Waterville &
Mansfield Airports.
